The Heart of a Follower of Jesus: Desperation
Luke 18:35-43
“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
This is such a beautiful picture, a living illustration of the heart of one who is poor and childlike before God—nothing is going to deter this man from getting what he needs from Jesus. He is a picture of desperation.
When Jesus stops and talks to him and hears what he wants, Jesus says to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.”
The man was desperate, and the only one who could change his plight is Jesus. Jesus is the Son of David. He is the rightful king who will sit on the throne for eternity with his enemies under his feet (Ephesians 1:22).
Are you desperate for the king to rule over your life today? If not, is it because you think you can handle life on your own? Do you recognize that you’re just like this beggar, in desperate need of Jesus’s rule and reign in your life each day?
The faith of a follower of Jesus is a desperate faith.
